Community, Legacy, and Crafting the Future: July at MTCF
Building a sustainable movement is just as much about drafting the framework behind the scenes as it is about the public events on the calendar. While July might have felt quieter on the surface, the groundwork laid this month provides the structural support for an incredible fall season ahead.
Here is our look back at July, from heartfelt project completions to the structural prep for our biggest events of the year.
Continuing the Cycle of Comfort with Montrose Grace Place
Our monthly volunteer work brought us back to Montrose Grace Place (MGP). We dropped off a fresh batch of yarn and crafting tools to Dani, our point of contact at MGP, who will be utilizing these resources to create hats and warm wearables for Tracy's Closet. This vital space provides housing-insecure and unhoused youth with essential everyday items.
Every month, our team spends time at MGP teaching the youth knitting and crochet techniques. Providing these young individuals with Constructive Mental Health Tools gives them a creative outlet for emotional regulation, stress relief, and self-expression.
Our ongoing partnership with GRS Fabrics is making it easier than ever to give back directly to youth who need it most. They have set up a dedicated link on their website where you can purchase a completed quilt for donation to Montrose Grace Place (MGP). GRS holds onto the quilts for us, and our team picks them up and delivers them during our monthly gatherings.
MGP is an incredible, LGBTQ+ friendly organization that helps homeless and housing-insecure youth access the vital resources they need to survive and thrive. These handmade quilts are placed in a special closet where the youth can choose essential items, providing tangible security, warmth, and comfort during difficult times.

Completing the Stitch: The Loose Ends Quilt Project
At the beginning of the month, we wrapped up work on the Loose Ends quilt project we undertook alongside David. By mid-July, we had the honor of returning the completed quilt to him.
For those unfamiliar with Loose Ends, they are a remarkable non-profit organization that matches handmakers with unfinished fiber arts projects left behind by loved ones who have passed away or are no longer able to complete them.
Finishing a piece like this goes far beyond completing a physical pattern. In the realm of Therapeutic Textile Arts, placing the final stitches on a loved one's work offers a tangible path toward closure and emotional processing. Tactile creation gives us a physical structure to process grief, turning memories into a lasting sanctuary of comfort.

Strengthening Our Foundation: Gratitude to Craftique
We extend a sincere thank you to the generous patrons and team at Craftique. Craftique accepts yarn donations for their non-profit initiatives, keeping what they need and passing along the surplus to support local community efforts.
Their recent donation of high-quality fiber supplies directly fuels our ongoing workshops and educational programs. Community partnerships like this ensure our doors and resources remain open and accessible to all.
Blueprint for the Fall: Scaling Our Impact
While July gave us time to rest and reset, it was primarily dedicated to preparing the framework for our busiest autumn yet.
As August approaches, we are gearing up for the return of our school-based programs, including the Hamilton Elementary Crochet Club and the Tomball High School Fiber Club. Guiding the next generation toward Mindful Weaving and Stitching gives students practical, hands-on habits for managing stress and building focus.
Beyond our school clubs, we are preparing for two major fall events, and we need our community to help us frame out these efforts.
Event 1: H+H Americas (Booth #833)
Dates: September 30 - October 2
Location: Houston, TX
We are exhibiting at H+H Americas to connect with industry leaders and showcase how textile arts serve as a powerful medium for everyday mental wellness. This will be an informational booth focused on advocacy, education, and community expansion.
How You Can Help:
Booth Volunteers: We need dedicated volunteers for all three days, from open to close, to engage with trade show attendees, share MTCF’s mission, and distribute
resource materials.
Storytelling Textiles: MTCF quilts will be featured around the venue, but we are also seeking specific community-made pieces for display inside our booth. If you have a textile piece with a personal story or one that reflects the therapeutic journey of mental health and healing, we would love to feature it.
Event 2: International Quilt Festival
Dates: November 12 - November 15
Location: Houston, TX
We will be hosting a vendor booth featuring yarn and curated textile goods, with all proceeds directly funding MTCF's community mental health initiatives and youth programs.
How You Can Help:
Vendor & Outreach Volunteers: This will be a high-energy, fast-paced event. We are looking for volunteers with a background or interest in fiber arts who can manage inventory, assist shoppers, and passionately articulate our brand mission to event attendees.
As a huge perk, all volunteers for the International Quilt Festival will receive free admission to the show on the days they volunteer. You can sign up for full days or short blocks of time. Let us know your availability, and we will find a spot for you!
Looking Ahead
July showed us that every phase of the process matters, whether we are making public moves or tightening the blueprint behind the scenes. As school resumes in August and our fall preparations shift into high gear, we are deeply grateful for every volunteer, partner, and maker building this space alongside us.
We are also continuing to collect donations of Christmas fabric for our expanded holiday stocking initiative happening late this fall across both Houston and San Antonio. While we aren't calling for volunteers for this project just yet, collecting materials now helps us build a strong foundation for the holiday season ahead. If you have holiday
